About

*These are my personal views, and not those of any organization with which I am affiliated*

I am a Reader in Public Management & Strategy at Manchester Metropolitan University Business School, where my primary focus is on public sector policy and management.  I received my PhD from Loughborough University’s Centre for Service Management.

I used to be a senior manager in English local government, and have been in charge of a range of services including performance, policy, corporate planning, internal audit and governance, customer service, neighbourhood policy, partnership working, and external communications.

I am the chair of the Public Management & Governance special interest group of the British Academy of Management (BAM), and am a vice-chair of the BAM executive group. I am the treasurer of the Joint Universities Council (JUC) and vice-chair (research) of the JUC’s Public Administration Committee.

So, that’s the work stuff. I am also a keen coffee addict drinker, a former and largely unsuccessful stand-up, a dad, and Akela to a small cub scout pack.
